If you have been injured on the job, you may be entitled to cash wage benefits and medical care. There are four general kinds of workers’ compensation benefits: lost wages, medical fees, vocational rehabilitation or retraining and permanent injury ratings. In general, you will receive compensation of 60% of your average weekly wage from a period just before your injury or illness. Customary and reasonable medical fees are also covered. Workers’ compensation is mandatory for employers. The purpose is to provide quick, hassle-free compensation to injured employees without having to go to court. The catch is the employee generally cannot sue the employer. When the system works, it works well but don’t be misled that you do not need to consult with a lawyer.
