If you have been injured on the job, you may be entitled to cash wage benefits and medical care. There are four general kinds of workers’ compensation benefits: lost wages, medical fees, vocational rehabilitation or retraining and permanent injury ratings. In general, you will receive compensation of 60% of your average weekly wage from a period just before your injury or illness. Customary and reasonable medical fees are also covered. Workers’ compensation is mandatory for employers. The purpose is to provide quick, hassle-free compensation to injured employees without having to go to court. The catch is the employee generally cannot sue the employer. When the system works, it works well but don’t be misled that you do not need to consult with a lawyer. For many small injuries, the system will work fine. However, there are often disputes raised as to whether the injury was work related or the extent of the benefits which you may be entitled. Attorney Michael Gfroerer has years of experience in workers’ compensation cases and he will be sure that you get you the maximum benefits you are entitled to. Recent cases A client came in for debt help and found out he has a workers' compensation claim. He owed a medical provider over $35,000 for treatment for a heart attack for which he had no health insurance. After discussing the matter, Attorney Weddleton thought there might be an issue of workers' compensation which had never been mentioned to the client by his employer. Attorney Gfroerer took on the case. Eventually, the matter was settled with the insurance carrier so that the client had sufficient funds to pay his medical and legal bills and not have a lien on his home.
